Rocca Pietore Dolomites

In the geographical heart of the Unesco Dolomites, Rocca Pietore land (La Ròcia in ladin language) at 1143 meters of altitude has about 1200 inhabitants and has a surface of about 76 kilometers.

This land is full of villages and ancient hamlets, each with it original history and natural landscape: from the legendary village of Bramezza, to the amazing Laste, from the chief village Rocca Pietore or Malga Ciapela passing through Palue and Sottoguda, member of prestigious club “One of the most beautiful little village in Italy” since 2016. Worth also a visit Calloneghe area, with a wonderful view on Alleghe Lake.

Rocca Pietore Marmolada municipality has in total 25 small villages to discover!

The land became famous thanks to its unique and pristine natural elements, the place to live a perfect mountain experience among forests, streams, mountain lakes and some of the majestic Dolomites peaks.

The Rocca Pietore area offers a large variety of sport, history, culture and well-being experiences.

Marmolada ski area, part od Dolomiti Superski ski carousel, is the perfect place to ski in winter but has also plenty of other activities like ski mountaineering, cross-country ski, freeride and snowshoeing.

An amazing proposal is also ice climbing practice, the only sport where you are allowed to climb frozen waterfalls.

Here you will find some of the best views of the whole Dolomites during your trekking or hiking, while you are climbing on our rock walls or when you are doing a via ferrata experience.

Thanks to our ropeways, open both in winter and in summer, you will reach the top of the mountains and practice lots of outdoor activities for unforgettable moments.

The contrasted and fascinating history of the little Rocca Pietore community passed through local and uman events that leave signs also nowadays.

An important example is surely the history of the Rocca Pietore Magnificent Community, an original kind of self-government enjoyed from the Lombard period until 1806, and then the First World War. Some terrible fights, in fact, have been fighted in the Dolomites between rocks and ice. A war which signs can still be observed today. A part of this important history is handed down to people through war finds and items inside Marmolada Great War Museum at the second Marmolada cable car station in Serauta.

Rocca Pietore maintains its ladin culture through the local language and some traditions that have been handed down between generations.

A small Rocca Pietore jewel is Grop de Bal Marmolèda, a popular dance group who was born to promote ladin culture and traditional dances.
